From a biological prospective, males who are willing to act dangerously and erratically are more likely to be able to protect the female and eventually child in question, which means that, practically speaking, they are a suitable mate. After generations and generations of evolution, it has been ingrained in the male’s mind that acting “erratically” and doing “stupid shit” allows for reproductive success because, to some small extent, it is true.
As for why guys really do stupid things to impress girls, it’s because guys are fucking retarded.
